Las Vegas, September 25, 2025 – The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Foundation hosted its 8th Annual Lunch with the Sheriff on Thursday. This year’s event was extra special, as it took place at LVMPD’s Joint Emergency Training Institute (JETI). This one-of-a-kind facility is a vital part of Metro’s mission to protect and serve, and it consists of a fully-immersive indoor training village that replicates real-life environments that police officers and other first responders encounter every day. The day’s festivities included the official ribbon-cutting ceremony introducing the Indoor Tactical Training Village inside the newly dedicated Detective Steve Scholl Building.

Sheriff Kevin McMahill was proud to see his vision coming to fruition. “Having a facility like this to be able to provide the most realistic training to our cops and first responders from other agencies means that they’ll have better performance in those times of crisis when they’re out there on the streets,” said McMahill. “My intent behind these buildings is to continue to make our community safer by having better-trained officers who have already gone through these types of scenarios.”

LVMPD Foundation Executive Director, Karen Marben, elaborated upon the Sheriff’s sentiment when unveiling a special Donor Recognition Wall honoring the benefactors who made the JETI Campus possible. “These are donors who led the way with their philanthropic dollars to support the vision of Sheriff Kevin McMahill all the way back in 2018 when the fundraising started,” said Marben.

In attendance at the event was prominent businessman and longtime supporter of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, Antonio Accornero. “I did my Citizens' Police Academy training here at the JETI, and it’s incredible to see how much more has been developed on-site since then,” commented Accornero. “This facility is state of the art, and it sets Las Vegas apart from all other police departments in the country.” Over the years, Accornero has made generous contributions to the LVMPD and is committed to continuing his support of the dedicated men and women in law enforcement.

Also at this year’s momentous Lunch with the Sheriff were numerous Nevada dignitaries and high-ranking public officials, including: U.S. Senator Catherine Cortez Masto, Congresswoman Susie Lee, Lieutenant Governor Stavros Anthony, City of Las Vegas Mayor Shelley Berkley, City of Henderson Mayor Michelle Romero, Henderson Police Chief Reggie Rader, and North Las Vegas Police Chief Jacqueline Gravatt.

Lunch with the Sheriff is an exclusive event hosted by the LVMPD Foundation to recognize its 100 Club Donors, the generous supporters who stand behind Metro and whose support propels impactful innovations that reduce crime, enhance officer safety, improve efficiencies, and protect the community.
