LVMPD Foundation News
Las Vegas, August 19, 2025 – The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Foundation hosted its eighth Annual Wonder Women of Metro Luncheon at the JW Marriott Las Vegas Resort on Tuesday. The event celebrates and recognizes female leadership in law enforcement and in the community. This year, the LVMPD Foundation recognized four superstar women for their bravery and honored these standout officers with awards. The three named rising stars were: Officer Ann Hardman, Corrections Officer Angelina Cuyugan, and Civilian Staff Member Mackenzie Nogues. There was also a fourth award dedicated to the late officer Cristal Simms, a veteran turned metro officer, who passed away of cancer. That award went to Officer Alexis Turner, who was acknowledged due to her quick response to a shooting last year. Turner helped a woman who had ten gunshot wounds, ultimately saving her life.
This year’s event drew a record number of attendees who came to show their support for the LVMPD and, specifically, women in law enforcement. Notable local female leaders and dignitaries in attendance were: event keynote speaker Sandra Douglass Morgan, President of the Las Vegas Raiders; North Las Vegas Chief of Police Jacqueline Gravatt; Henderson Mayor Michelle Romero; and Las Vegas Mayor Shelley Berkley, who was the special guest of LVMPD supporter and Foundation Board Member, Antonio Accornero.
“I’m happy to be here once again this year to celebrate female leadership and support community engagement initiatives,” said Accornero, who made a generous contribution to youth sports and development programs like Bolden Lions Futbol Club and the D.R.E.A.M. Fund. LVMPD Foundation Executive Director Karen Marben stressed the importance of raising critical funds for community initiatives and commended Accornero for leading by example.
Benefitting the LVMPD Foundation and its numerous programs, the Wonder Women of Metro Luncheon serves as a reminder to appreciate the wonderful women in our lives who are dedicated to public safety and our community. In addition to raising important funds for the Foundation, this public awareness initiative pushes the needle forward in strengthening relationships between the LVMPD and those they serve. By recognizing and highlighting the women in the department and the importance that diverse perspectives bring to our community, we become stronger and safer.
Antonio Accornero’s generous contributions to the LVMPD over the years have helped to fund many initiatives, such as community engagement and public safety programs. A longtime supporter of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police, Accornero pledges to continue to advocate for the Department with upcoming fundraising events.
