Las Vegas, August 06, 2026 – The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Foundation hosted its 9th Annual Lunch with the Sheriff on Wednesday at the Red Rock Casino, Resort & Spa. The event serves as a public awareness initiative, strengthening the bond between the LVMPD and its communities. At the luncheon, Sheriff Kevin McMahill addressed Southern Nevada business and community leaders, with special recognition of local philanthropist Antonio Accornero.
This year, Mr. Accornero was honored for his increased support of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department. Not only has he been a longtime supporter of the LVMPD, but he is also a Founding Member of the prestigious 100 Club. “100” signifies the call sign for the LVMPD Sheriff, and membership to the 100 Club is only offered to generous donors who invest in public safety annually. “I appreciate everything my friend Kevin McMahill has accomplished as Sheriff,” said Accornero. “I remain dedicated to supporting law enforcement because the brave men and women on the force continuously put their lives on the line to make Las Vegas a safer place.”
This year’s luncheon took on a subdued and reflective tone, as the Department and entire community were mourning the recent line-of-duty death of Officer Austin Abdelnabi. Sheriff McMahill honored him, saying, “He answered the call to serve with courage, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to protecting others.”
Officer Abdelnabi’s sacrifice is a heartbreaking reminder of the risks that law enforcement officers face every day in service to our community. In an effort to protect both officers and citizens even more, the LVMPD is introducing a department-wide AI Initiative that will revolutionize law enforcement. Assistant Sheriff Dori Koren took to the stage with updates on technology, indicating that the LVMPD is more focused than ever on ramping up on equipment and technology, as well as increasing officer training and partnering with community leaders to achieve Sheriff McMahill’s goal of making Las Vegas the safest city in the nation.
The annual Lunch with the Sheriff event is crucial, not only in strengthening relationships between the LVMPD and the community, but also in continuing impactful programs across the County that help keep roads safer, keep residents informed and alert, and reduce crime.
