Las Vegas, June 16, 2022 – Retired Undersheriff Kevin McMahill secured his position as the next Clark County, Nevada Sheriff after earning the majority of the votes cast in the Primary Election, held June 14th. McMahill was declared the outright winner in the three-man race, having captured nearly 60 percent of the votes and meeting the majority threshold in the nonpartisan race (fellow candidates included Tom Roberts and Stan Hyt).

“I’m grateful to have received the overwhelming majority vote from our community and I’m honored to have been elected to be your next LVMPD Sheriff,” McMahill tweeted. “I will continue to work tirelessly and collaboratively to help keep our community safe.” At his election watch party, McMahill reiterated that this result “… is what I’ve worked thirty-plus years to achieve.”

McMahill had a large contingent of supporters, including current Clark County Sheriff Joe Lombardo, who endorsed McMahill, as did the 3,000-member Las Vegas Police Protective Association. McMahill also received an endorsement from incumbent District Attorney, Steve Wolfson, who was again chosen as the Democratic nominee for DA and will face Republican attorney Tim Treffinger in the upcoming General Election this November.

An influential patron of McMahill’s campaign for Sheriff was Antonio Accornero, who has been a loyal supporter from the beginning. “I’m proud to have been a part of Kevin’s campaign, but most importantly, I’m proud to be his friend,” said Accornero. “No one deserves this victory more than Kevin McMahill, and no one will do a better job as Sheriff.”

Since McMahill won the majority of votes, he will not face a runoff election, and although his term as Sheriff won’t begin until January of 2023, he is looking forward to starting work as soon as possible on important issues such as mental health, addiction, homelessness, and, above all, crime prevention. A longtime supporter of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police, Accornero pledges to continue to advocate for the Department with upcoming fundraising events. Some of the ways Antonio is engaged in his community include: working directly with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, the District Attorney’s office, and other organizations to address the immediate needs of individuals and the community as a whole; donating his own private funds and holding fundraisers to contribute to the public good; actively participating in political processes and supporting local police in order to improve and protect the quality of life for all Nevadans; and providing scholarships to deserving students to fund their education in various disciplines.
