Las Vegas, December 19, 2023 – Christmas is a magical time of year, but sadly, children from low-income neighborhoods often don’t get to celebrate the joys of the season. Fortunately, that’s where community partners like The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department and Mario’s Westside Market really come through. Each year, Mario Berlanga of Mario’s Westside Market hosts a heartwarming Toy and Bike Giveaway event, partnering with LVMPD’s Bolden Area Command and community leaders to make underprivileged children’s wishes come true.
One such collaborator this year was Antonio Accornero, whose company, Winner Properties, was the single largest donor of bicycles for the giveaway. As a longtime supporter of the LVMPD, Mr. Accornero is always eager to take part in events that provide not only financial aid, but emotional support as well. “I’m happy to be able to sponsor an event that helps kids in need,” said Accornero. “For a lot of them, this will be their first bike, and it’s nice to know that I could make a few dreams come true.”
The Toy and Bike Giveaway on Tuesday was a tremendous success, with a turnout that far surpassed expectation. Children and parents alike were able to experience the true spirit of Christmas – charity, generosity, and togetherness. Mr. Berlanga was overwhelmed by the support. “A massive thank you to our phenomenal sponsors, businesses, and the Bolden Area Command for turning this vision into reality. Our heartfelt appreciation extends to the wonderful community that made this toy drive truly memorable.”
Christmas in the “106” (as the area is called after its zip code) is an annual tradition, and Mario’s Christmas Toy and Bike Giveaway is becoming one, too! Neighborhood kids started lining up in the parking lot of Mario’s Westside Market at 8:00 a.m. for school supplies, toys, and bikes. Santa was on hand to greet children, and Captain Boveda of the Bolden Area Command and her team of officers were there to provide their continued support.
From everyone in the 106, as well as every other zip code in the entire Las Vegas Valley, sending wishes for a wonderful Holiday Season filled with warmth and happiness!
