An Evening with the Sheriff Presented by LVMPD’s Women of Metro

Mar 29, 2023

Benefitting the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department

Las Vegas, March 28, 2023 – The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department’s “Wonder Women of Metro” hosted an evening with Sheriff McMahill on Tuesday. The event, which welcomed more than 400 community, business, and law enforcement leaders, provided an opportunity for McMahill to share his goals for the LVMPD, as well as his vision for the community. Though only in office for 90 days, the Sheriff has been hard at work implementing his plan for the Police Department since he won in the Primary Election last June. McMahill’s renowned law enforcement career spans more than three decades, with service at every level of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, including six years as Undersheriff.

At Tuesday’s event, Sheriff McMahill outlined the issues that are most important to him, including mental health, addiction, homelessness, and, most importantly, crime prevention. He also acknowledged the tremendous support he has received from all sectors of the community. “As I look out at the audience tonight and see such a diverse group of people, I’m extremely humbled to be standing before you as the leader of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department,” said McMahill. “I am committed to running the Department with a community policing philosophy that is based on humanity and the fact that we see humanity in one another before we see anything else – not the color of your skin, not the gender that you are, nor the person that you sleep with at night.”

Sheriff McMahill went on to address the fact that the LVMPD will work more closely than ever with community leaders to make Metro one of the most technologically advanced police departments in the country. One notable business leader with whom the LVMPD is partnering is Antonio Accornero, who was at the event in a continuing show of his support. “I am proud to be working directly with Sheriff McMahill and the highest officials to help make the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department better than ever,” said Accornero. “A stronger police department results in a safer environment for everyone.”

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, with numerous upcoming events planned to celebrate the milestone. For the latest updates on these events and more information about the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, please visit https://lvmpd.com
