LVMPD Foundation News
Las Vegas, January 9, 2026 –The city of Las Vegas turned blue on Friday to recognize all of the law enforcement officers who dedicate their lives to keeping the city safe. Properties around the valley showed support for the law enforcement community by lighting up buildings and marquees in honor of National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day (LEAD). Across the country on January 9th each year, citizens take the lead to show support of law enforcement officers of every rank and file who have chosen a profession that puts their life on the line every day for their communities.
National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day was created by multiple agencies in 2015 in order for the public to express gratitude to law enforcement officers throughout the United States. Once again this year, Las Vegas residents and business leaders came together to thank officers for their service and to acknowledge all of the daily sacrifices they make for the community. Local philanthropist Antonio Accornero showed his continuing support of the LVMPD by posting a message on a digital sign at one of his commercial properties. He also attended a special event at the Strat Hotel & Casino hosted by the LVMPD Foundation for its exclusive “100 Club” Members.
“As a founding member of the 100 Club and a Board Member of the LVMPD Foundation, I am honored to be a part of this celebration every year,” said Accornero. “The men and women of Metro go above and beyond every day to keep our city safe, and I’m here as a token of my sincere appreciation.”
The evening’s gathering also provided the opportunity to award the “Top COP Team Contest” prize to the Spring Valley Area Command for demonstrating outstanding community engagement and donor support. The SVAC earned the coveted championship belt for a second year in a row! The friendly competition raises critical funds for community policing programs, strengthening the connection between LVMPD officers and the neighborhoods they serve.
While LEAD is officially one day, the LVMPD Foundation supports LVMPD year-round through initiatives that strengthen trust and connection between officers and the community, including youth programs, officer recognition efforts, and community partnerships focused on public safety.
